The institute will have a lab designed for students to experiment with LoRaWAN-enabled applications that can impact and solve real-world challenges
LoRaWAN Academy, a comprehensive and global university program connecting next-generation engineers with LoRaWAN-based low power wide area network (LPWAN) technology for applied learning and innovative research, announced that the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has joined the Academy. The LoRaWAN Academy drives and supports Universities and their students to learn more about Semtech’s (Nasdaq:SMTC) LoRa® devices and wireless radio frequency (RF) technology (LoRa Technology) and the LoRaWAN™ open protocol.
Being one of India’s leading Universities in the domain of Internet of Things (IoT), VIT has set up a lab with LoRaWAN-based gateways, a server, developer kits, and conduct on-site technical guidance to train faculty members. The lab is designed for students to experiment with LoRaWAN-enabled applications that can impact and solve real-world challenges. The LoRaWAN Academy will empower VIT students through online training courses as well as assist them in designing LoRaWAN-enabled sensors. With their devices, students can have the opportunity to participate in IoT-based events and showcase their unique applications.
“Technologies have been constantly developing, creating a demand for more engineers with technical skills geared toward IoT,” said Sankar Viswanathan, Vice President (Chennai Campus) at VIT University. “Joining the LoRaWAN Academy will let us better teach our students how to develop cutting-edge IoT applications using LoRa Technology and the LoRaWAN open protocol.”
“This is a great opportunity to teach VIT students about LoRa Technology so they will become more competitive and prepared engineers in the growing field of IoT,” said Jaap Groot, acting director of the LoRaWAN Academy. “The LoRaWAN Academy mission is to educate the next generation of hardware and software engineers to imagine, develop and operate real-world IoT applications.”
VIT University was established with the aim of providing quality higher education on par with international standards. It persistently seeks and adopts innovative methods to improve the quality of higher education on a consistent basis. Experienced and learned teachers are strongly encouraged to nurture the students. The global standards set at VIT in the field of teaching and research spurs the institute in its relentless pursuit of excellence. For more information, visit www.vit.ac.in/.
